Wikipedia... enough of ogv already.

...yep. it's been several years and Wikipedia still uses the ogv format for videos.

while I may understand that Ogg Video might be 100% open, the problem is that it uses ancient technology (like Theora).

Theora is based on VP3, which is a super old video compression scheme that has been already improved 7 times! (all the way up to VP8, VP9 and then AV1, with the latter three being open)

plus if you look at compatibility, you can see that:

therefore forcing you to download the video, but now the problem is how would you play it?
the media player that comes with your OS is almost guaranteed to not support .ogv, forcing you to download VLC or some other media player that supports it!
and even worse, if you are on iOS you are screwed! VLC barely exists for iOS but I do not know anymore...

...why can't you just switch to WebM and VP8/VP9/AV1? it has broader support...
...or maybe even switch to H.264 as they say it is free to use for non-commercial content...

*sighs* I just get angry every time I see .ogv...
